Earth is suffering from the misuse of modern technology, suffering that rebounds no less on human minds and bodies and often expresses itself in personal stress and serious illness. There is an urgent need to revisit the principles of balance, harmony and health for the individual, our sustaining environment and the wider world.
The Foundation believes that there is a fundamental principle which underlies this process:
‘If you want to change the world, first change yourself’.
Fundamental to the ancient Chinese Daoist tradition is the concept that within each human being there is a miniature universe, the ‘micro-cosmos’, which is intimately related to the universe as a whole, the ‘macro-cosmos’. This eastern tradition is echoed by many western traditional teachings, and can be recognised in modern scientific terms as the principle of a profound ecological interdependence between all things.
In line with this principle of interdependence, the Foundation is dedicated to improving the condition of all plant, animal and human life as inseparable from the health and sustaining energy of our precious Earth.
The Foundation thus encourages individual people to recognise their personal role and profound responsibility in enhancing and strengthening this important and fundamental principle. To assist this process, the Foundation will seek to integrate the wisdom of ancient sages and their teaching with the best and wisest use of twenty-first century science.
